Strategic relocation
Kyndryl, the world’s largest IT infrastructure services provider, has undertaken a significant project with Hausbank München. The German cooperative bank, Hausbank München, is set to migrate its data centers to Kyndryl’s facilities. This move comes as Kyndryl announced its partnership with the Munich-based bank this week. Consequently, two data centers currently situated at Hausbank’s locations will be relocated to Frankfurt, where Kyndryl operates its facilities.
Furthermore, Kyndryl is poised to rebuild Hausbank’s dedicated server infrastructure, enhance network modernization, manage operating systems, and provide a private, cloud-native platform based on Kubernetes technology. This overhaul underscores Kyndryl’s commitment to fostering technological advancements.
Banking and real estate synergy
Jan Keuntje, Hausbank München eG’s General Attorney and CIO, expressed enthusiasm about the collaboration. Keuntje anticipates a swift and efficient data center transition, envisaging expanded services and specialized software solutions for property owners and the real estate sector. This shift aligns with Hausbank’s focus on its core banking business and real estate-oriented software solutions.
In a related development, Markus Koerner, President of Kyndryl Germany, highlighted the financial sector’s significance to Kyndryl. The company provides services to approximately 70 major institutions worldwide. Koerner emphasized Kyndryl’s proficiency in financial services regulations and its customized service approach tailored to Hausbank München eG’s unique needs.
Historical and current context
Founded in 1908, Hausbank has its roots as a cooperative self-help organization for homeowners. Today, it specializes in serving property owners and the real estate industry in Munich. While the specifics of Hausbank’s data centers remain under wraps, one is believed to be at the company’s Sonnenstraße facility in Munich.
Kyndryl’s journey as an independent entity began following its spin-off from IBM’s Managed Infrastructure Services business in 2021. The company’s rapid growth trajectory has included notable transactions, such as the recent acquisition of a Kyndryl data center by NorthC Group outside Zurich, Switzerland. Additionally, a Kyndryl-occupied data center in Columbus, Ohio, was reported to be on sale to a new landlord earlier this year, reflecting the dynamic nature of the data center market.
