In an effort to enhance its data management and security capabilities, the German Cancer Research Center (DKFZ) has deployed Datadobi’s StorageMAP platform. This move is significant for DKFZ, Germany’s largest biomedical research institute, given its vast amount of critical data and over 3,000 employees, including 1,200 scientists.
Companies’ background
DKFZ is Germany’s largest biomedical research institute, striving to understand cancer and develop new therapeutic approaches. Datadobi is the global leader in unstructured data management. Founded in 2010, its StorageMAP platform provides visualisation, organisation, and action in unstructured storage and hybrid-cloud environments.
Efficient Data Management with Datadobi
Tobias Reber, Working Group Leader for Central Servers at DKFZ, spoke highly of Datadobi’s software. According to him, the company has successfully implemented the software over the years for continuous data management, including data migration and filer archiving. He was particularly impressed with the software’s reliability and speed. In one instance, they managed to replicate more than 1 Petabyte of data within days.
Comprehensive Overview and Security Enhancement
Not only did Reber praise the Datadobi team’s expertise and support, but he also emphasised the ease of deployment and comprehensive data overview the StorageMAP platform offers. The software helped him identify data overdue for archiving, which had been left on the system for years. The insights derived from StorageMAP have driven informed actions to tag, identify orphaned data, and decide on data pipelining, migration, archiving, or deletion. This proactive data management mitigates potential security and operational risks, saving costs in the process.
StorageMAP and Sustainability
On top of data management, StorageMAP also supports DKFZ’s commitment to sustainability. It allows to measure the data center’s carbon footprint and act accordingly, aligning with the institute’s mission.
Partnership Outlook and Future Endeavors
Michael Jack, Datadobi’s CRO and Co-Founder, expressed excitement about the partnership with DKFZ. He affirmed Datadobi’s mission aligns with DKFZ’s dedication to research excellence and sustainability. Through StorageMAP, Datadobi has enabled DKFZ to gain valuable data insights and safeguard critical data.
Launching StorageMAP 6.5
Moreover, Datadobi recently launched StorageMAP 6.5, which enhances the archival and movement of large subsets of file data. This new release is particularly suited to more complex data operations, such as criteria-based data movement and setting up data pipelines between clouds and NAS systems. Recognising these benefits, DKFZ has committed to continue utilising StorageMAP, including its newly launched capabilities.
