Siemens AG, a multinational conglomerate company and one of the largest industrial manufacturing companies in Europe, is significantly investing in Germany, following its announced €2 billion investment strategy.

The investment

Out of this, approximately €1 billion is allocated to investments within Germany with an aim to enhance the nation’s innovative prowess. As part of this, Siemens has announced the establishment of a new Technology Campus in Erlangen, Germany. This campus, which is being established with an investment of around €500 million, is set to augment development and manufacturing capacities

The Technology Campus in Erlangen is being positioned as a global hub for research and development in the field of the industrial metaverse. This refers to a virtual representation of the real world that is photorealistic and physics-based. This ambitious step is expected to accelerate Siemens’ growth, foster innovation, and bolster resilience.

Investments are planned primarily for new manufacturing capacities, innovation labs, education centers, and further expansion of Siemens’ locations. The industrial metaverse being planned is set to be a blueprint for the future of high-tech manufacturing, and production at this location will leverage high levels of automation, with humans and robots working alongside each other.

Intelligence & data

By employing artificial intelligence and relevant physical data, Siemens plans to introduce a new generation of high-tech manufacturing. The latter will offer more sustainability and flexibility in response to market changes. The Erlangen facility is key to the production of power electronics components and machine tool controls, which constitute crucial elements of Germany’s economy and industry.

In addition to Siemens’ initiative, employees are being trained and upskilled to actively contribute to and shape the digital transformation of the work environment. The expansion of the Erlangen facility is also based on a comprehensive sustainability and energy concept. The aim here is to establish a net-zero location that meets the highest sustainability standards.

Siemens is on a roll

This significant investment by Siemens is expected to strengthen Germany as an industrial location and significantly contribute to the development of the Nuremberg metropolitan region. The company’s investment strategy also extends to regions such as the U.S., China, and Southeast Asia. It recently announced a €160 million investment project for the construction of new headquarters in Spain.
