CyrusOne, a leading data centre provider, has announced its plans to construct a new data centre in Frankfurt, Germany. This and other recent deals further solidify Germany’s position as a central European hub for tech companies.

The facility

Named FRA6, the facility will be situated on the Europark office site in Sossenheim, Frankfurt, which the company acquired earlier this year. With a spacious area of 27,500 square meters (296,000 square feet), FRA6 will offer a total IT capacity of 72MW spread across four floors, with each level providing 18MW of power. The timeline for the development of the data center has not yet been disclosed.

The acquisition of the Europark site further demonstrates CyrusOne’s commitment to Frankfurt as the digital capital of Europe and our ongoing European expansion.

Andreas also revealed that there has already been significant interest from hyperscale customers and large enterprises regarding FRA6.

How the deal came about

CyrusOne acquired the EuroPark site on Wilhelm-Fay Strasse 31-37 for €95 million ($102.3 million) from Corum, an investment group, in January 2023. The existing office building on the site, spanning 50,000 square meters (528,200 square feet), is currently fully-let to Deutsche Bank. It will be transformed into a hyperscale data centre facility in the medium term.

CyrusOne already operates or is developing five data centres in Frankfurt. Most sites are located within a short distance from the newly acquired site. Additionally, CyrusOne announced plans for Frankfurt V in November 2021, a 90MW facility to be built in the Hanau area east of Frankfurt.

The construction of FRA6 marks another significant expansion for CyrusOne in Frankfurt. The deal reinforces the city’s position as a major hub for data centres. The company’s continued growth and investment in the region reflect the increasing demand for data centre capacity in Europe’s digital centre.
