Berlin-based digital solutions provider Circadian Technologies has successfully raised €1.25M in a recent funding round.
The investment
BayWa r.e. Energy Ventures spearheaded the round, with participation from Rockstart, Persistent Energy Capital, Great Stuff Ventures, Tofino Capital, and Ralicap Climate. Circadian Technologies specialises in providing innovative Energy Management System (EMS) Hardware- and Software-as-a-Service (SaaS) solutions. These solutions cater particularly to solar developers and asset owners in African grid-challenged emerging market countries. With this new financial backing, the startup is poised to enhance its SaaS data platform’s functionality and expand operations to meet immediate demand.
About Circadian Technologies
Circadian Technologies empowers solar developers and Independent Power Producers (IPPs). The company aids in the design, sales, financing, operation, and maintenance of solar and storage systems. They play a crucial role in the energy transition from fossil fuels to renewables in the commercial and industrial sectors of emerging markets. Unreliable electrical grids in these regions mean that businesses often resort to costly and polluting diesel generators. Circadian’s solutions aim to simplify the implementation of renewable energy systems in rural Africa. Their innovative technology includes the Circadian Cortex EMS hardware and the Circadian One Cloud Platform.
Expansion and technological innovation
Circadian is in the process of scaling across Africa, with plans to extend the team, build out the platform’s functionalities, and drive further growth. “We strive to be the catalyst for the mass adoption of decentralised energy in growth markets,” says CEO Mike Rosenberg. Circadian has formed a strategic partnership with Nigeria’s Royal Power & Energy (RPE). This collaboration aims to provide solar and storage installations to 50 bank branches in Nigeria, assisting businesses in frontier markets to transition to renewable energy.
RPE primarily serves the commercial and industrial sector, helping reduce dependence on expensive diesel. Circadian’s technology ensures optimal performance of RPE’s solar and storage systems, providing access to reliable and affordable energy. The Cortex Remote Intelligence Hub, part of Circadian’s offering, connects to all energy assets on RPE’s site, ensuring connectivity even in areas with unreliable Wi-Fi. This inclusive approach ensures support for deployments in the most remote areas.
Building trust and accelerating adoption
Through their collaboration, Circadian and RPE demonstrate the power production and consumption capabilities of their solutions to potential customers. This has played a crucial role in building trust and accelerating the sales cycle. Max ter Horst from Rockstar Energy comments on the significance of Circadian’s work, highlighting their support for companies looking to reduce diesel generator consumption by implementing renewable-powered microgrids.
The company greatly enables the scaling of renewable energy use among customers,
Circadian’s solutions, with their plug-and-play approach, are making renewable energy more accessible and easier to adopt for businesses in emerging and established markets alike.
