Karlsruhe-based Daedalus has successfully raised $21 million (approximately €19.4 million) in its Series A funding round. The round was led by NGP Capital, with Addition and Khosla Ventures also participating. This injection of funds will be directed towards expanding its proprietary Manufacturing AI Platform. Moreover, it aims to scale production facilities within Germany, marking a significant step in its growth journey.

Revolutionising manufacturing with AI

Daedalus, founded by Jonas Schneider, a former OpenAI Technical Lead, is on a mission to create the world’s most advanced factories. Utilising artificial intelligence, these factories will be autonomous and instantly reconfigurable. Schneider envisions a future where factories hold the combined knowledge of all engineers and machinists. He states, “Daedalus is already making that vision real by revolutionizing how we build everything from microchips to critical medical components.” This revolutionary approach aims to produce highly precise and varied parts with minimal human input.

The company’s innovative Manufacturing AI Platform automates the entire manufacturing process. From quoting to delivery, it ensures high precision and flexibility in production. Daedalus’s software-defined strategy allows for the production of new parts with little human intervention. Furthermore, it enables employees with minimal training to accurately transform designs into finished components. This capability not only enhances precision, reliability, and speed but also addresses significant industry challenges.

Currently, Daedalus services major players in the semiconductor, defense, energy, e-mobility, and medical sectors. These industries rely heavily on precision manufacturing for bespoke, high-value components. Schneider highlights the transformative impact of Daedalus’s technology, noting, “Our software-driven factory has already alleviated some major pain points.” Despite surpassing over 50,000 incumbents, the company identifies a remaining $100 billion annual demand within Germany alone. With demand from existing customers exceeding capacity, Daedalus aims to further improve customer experience and internal efficiency through this new funding.

The company is expanding its first 50,000 square foot factory in Germany. This facility is pivotal in producing critical components for its distinguished clientele across various critical sectors. Schneider’s vision for Daedalus is not just about advancing manufacturing technology but also about unleashing the potential of numerous industries through AI-powered, custom-part production.
